Last night I had a Trolley Problem…

Last night the fire alarm went off in my apartment complex, and we all had to evacuate the building. As I frantically made my way out of my apartment, I realized that my six foster cats were nowhere to be found.

I searched high and low, but each cat had scattered in a different direction and were hiding in various nooks and crannies. It was a true trolley problem scenario – do I try to rescue all of my cats at the risk of putting myself in danger or do I prioritize my own safety?

Luckily, it turned out to be a false alarm and we were all able to return to our homes safely. But it got me thinking about the importance of having an evacuation plan for pets.

Not only do we need to consider our own safety in emergency situations, but we also need to think about the safety of our furry friends. So next time you’re making an evacuation plan, don’t forget to include your pets.

In the meantime, I’ll be brainstorming some ideas for how to get six cats out of a burning building. Maybe a trolley will come in handy after all.
