My day began with a visit to the gym, a yoga class, an appointment at the hairdresser for that essential post-lockdown haircut (yes, I was a few weeks late on that), a supermarket run, coffee with friends, and lastly a quick trip to the local book shop to pick up a present for an upcoming birthday. All very mundane and unremarkable, and I’ve probably spent countless Sundays similarly in the past, but I’m still finding it very novel to do multiple things in one day. At the same time, I cast one eye over to Europe and watch wearily the reports of cities reimposing restrictions. When Melbourne emerged from lockdown last year at the beginning of the southern hemisphere summer, it wasn’t long before we watched Europe go back into lockdowns as the colder months descended. Then just as they began to ease restrictions there, here we hunkered back down for another winter. I hope this is not the beginning of another cycle.
